Phil Murphy’s Disgusting Treatment of Women

1996

As President of Goldman Sachs, Phil Murphy knowingly invested in a chinese company that abused teenage girls, forcing them into slave labor. 

  • Girls were paid 20 cents a day and lived 12 to a room

  • Girls lost fingers and arms, all in order to benefit shareholders like Murphy.

2008

Phil Murphy buys majority ownership of a women’s soccer team whose members were forced to work in deplorable conditions

  • Women players claimed to “have lived in houses with plastic bags for windows” and “sometimes are made to sleep in bunk beds”

  • The players facility had no showers and no laundry, leaving players no choice but to wear dirty clothes to practice

  • Women players complained about the team not paying medical bills for injuries they sustained while playing

  • One prominent player accused Murphy of using the women’s team as his own personal tax write-off

2017

Phil Murphy campaigns on equality for women, but…. 

  • His staff use the “C-Word” to describe women

  • His senior advisors fired a woman staffer after she complained about a toxic male work culture

  • Murphy refused to fire a staffer who allegedly raped a volunteer and then awarded him with a $170,000 a year salary, after the fact

2018-2020 

Phil Murphy ignored Katie Brennan’s pleas for help after being allegedly raped by a senior member of his staff. 

  • After learning of the alleged rape, the staffer remained in his $170,000 a year job for months

  • Governor Murphy and his administration would not properly address the allegations, forcing Katie Brennan to work alongside her alleged rapist for months.

  • Only after the Wall Street Journal broke the story did Governor Murphy decide to act.

  • Despite public pressure, Murphy refused to punish the aides who knew of the rape allegations, and decided to hire the alleged rapist, anyways.

As Governor, Phil Murphy knew New Jersey’s Edna Mahan women's prison was rife with sexual and physical violence, yet he decided not to act until a scathing report surfaced.
